What if you can't think about what to write about?
Use a Story Starter. Story starters are merely probems just as stories are a series of problems followed by solutions, which lead to new problems. Have you ever noticed that stories that don't start with a problem begin with an opportunity that leads to a problem?
Story Starter 1
Suzie and Mabel have been best friends ever since kindergarten. In grade five, they had a bit of a tiff, a falling out if you like. It started over something stupidly simple.
Define the problem or the opportunity.
Come up with a solution.
Story Starter 2
Fred and George were both chosen for the Grade Seven basketball team. It looks as if the coach will be choosing one of them to become captain. This looks like an opportunity that could very easily lead to a problem seeing as the two boys have been quite good friends ever since grade one. In addition, I think you should know that they have been fierce competitors.
Story Starter 3
The substitute teacher has been piling on the homework. Should Suzie, Mabel, Fred and George just grin and bear it or should they do something about it?
