Can't Complain   by Larry Low     Can't Complain Quiz

When they were little, Mei Mei and Jei Jei were angels in disguise. That does not mean that they were always good. When Mei Mei wasn’t complaining, Jei Jei was. When Jei Jei wasn’t, Mei Mei was. They soon grew into the habit of complaining almost all of the time. They were indeed clever at finding things to complain about.

Jei Jei, the older one would complain if Mei Mei got something that Jei Jei had not got. If there was only one cookie left on the plate, their mother had to decide whom to give it to or if she should simply divide it in two. If she gave it to Mei Mei, Jei Jei would complain. If she gave it Jei Jei, Mei Mei would complain. If she divided it in two, both would complain. How could that be? It was impossible for both to have gotten more and impossible for both to have received less.

What in the world did they find to complain about? Listing their complaints would take forever. We do not have quite that much time. It is simpler to replace that list with EVERYTHING!

They would complain about the rain in Spain. Why would they complain? They did not even live in Spain. Furthermore, they had only ever heard of Spain in a song. However, that did not keep them from considering the rain in Spain as something worth complaining about. If the day were sunny, they would complain that they were too hot. If the day were rainy they would stop complaining. Stop complaining? They would stop complaining about the rain in Spain and merely complain about the rain.

To make a change, they would occasionally complain about the rain in Spain staying mainly on the plain, which was part of a song about Spain.

Their mother would sigh and say,. “It will be okay when they are off to school.”

It was for awhile but as soon as Mei Mei got home from school, she would complain that she could not stay until three. When Jei Jei got home she would complain that she was not allowed to leave at two like her little sister. I ask you! Is there no satisfying these two?

I guess there isn't any satisfying them.

In spite of all the complaining, Mei Mei and Jei Jei grew up to be beautiful young women. Jei Jei married a farmer and Mei Mei married Prince Nicolas. She went to live in the royal palace that overlooked the river.
