Almost right up until the unanticipated afternoon break, John Hanson is distracted. He can not get down to work. His thoughts are with his older brother, who is playing hockey for the Canucks. John keeps his eyes on the teacher though and while she is going on about Moses crossing the Red Sea, he looks as if he is actually seeing his teacher. Of course that is not true. In his mind's eye he can see George breaking away and firing the puck into the net but of course that is a bit unrealistic as George plays defence and is not likely to get much ice time seeing as he is a rookie and if the Canucks lose this one they are out of the Playoffs. Red Sea. It could be the Dead Sea for all I care John tells himself.
Mrs. Hennings soon realizes that her whole class seems to havedrifted off into another world. "It's those darned Playoffs," she tells herself.
"Listen up," she says with a grin, as she flicks the remote.
All fidgeting stops. The sound comes on before the picture.
"He Shoots! He Scores!"
There is a moment of exasperation and then the screen brightens. A close-up of the dejected Dolphin goalie fills the screen. As a commercial comes on, John feels a surge of relief.
Mrs. Hennings pushes the mute button and a bunch of guys are doubled over with laughter as some deadpan guy munches bran bars.
"Class listen up. You can see the rest of the game but you had better know all about Moses crossing the Red Sea for our test tomorrow."
There is a short cheer not for the test but for the game.
"By the way, there is someone in our class, whose brother plays for the Canucks but I shall let that person remain anonymous."
As the Commercial ends, she flicks off the Mute. There is a sudden surge of sound. The announcer is clearly caught up in the excitement. "Thirty-three slaps the puck from about thirty feet out. It grazes the crossbar and the horns blow. "Vancouver is ahead by one goal."
"Cancucks goal, George Hanson" the arena announcer says or is it a robot? "Nineteen minutes twenty seconds of the third period."
John feels a mass of eyes upon him. "I guess that person is no longer anonymous," he says with a grin.
"Anonymity is often short-lived," Mrs Hennings adds.

As the game ends with wild cheers by one side and doom and gloom by the other, Mrs. Hennings flicks off the television and says, "lets get down to it."
John speaks. "I was wondering if we could have a recap of the Moses dude."
"We could," Mrs. Hennings says with an exasperating smile but we're not going to."
"Fair enough," John agrees wishing he'd paid just a little bit of attention.
"What we are going to do is go over some vocabulary so that you will at least understand something about the way that Moses aided the exodus of the Jews from Egypt."
